Part 2: Reliable deliveries for data center projects start with good planning

Plans often change as a data center project moves forward. Cable types change, quantities are adjusted and schedules shift. By the time the final order comes in, it may look quite different from what the original delivery estimate was based on.

This makes planning harder for everyone involved, from designers and contractors to cable manufacturers.

One way forward is to use more standardized cable solutions and plan ahead for deliveries. When technically suitable, pre-approved cables can be used across several projects, manufacturers have a better chance to plan production and reserve capacity.

 

“We often start talking about security of supply when an order is placed, but there is a lot we can do much earlier. If we know in good time which cables and quantities a project will need, we can plan production and deliveries much better. That helps keep the whole project on track”, says Tapio Laitinen, Sales Director Connect at Reka by Nexans.

 

 

This does not mean every data center should be built in exactly the same way. It simply means we do not need to start from scratch with cable selection on every project when the technical requirements allow us to use the same proven solutions.
